Chris Sharkey
Grain Producer
Chris is the 4th generation of the Sharkey family to manage the family owned farm business.
Post tertiary studies in agricultural management Chris has devoted much of his life to the pursuit of sustainable and regenerative land management in a low rainfall zone. Chris specializes in grain, oilseed and legume production and takes a holistic approach to the business.
Chris is involved in grain research and leads a locally based grain producer group who in conjunction with universities, government agencies, and the private sector, conducts large-scale trials.
Each farm tour is tailored to suit the group with a number of guest speakers joining the tour to share their expertise and bring a balanced view to primary food production, one of Australia’s most important industries.
“It was a great day and thank you for a very informative and interesting insight into your farm and farming practices. I was particulary glad our boys were so engaged and were able to get away from looking at computer screens all day. Its really good that you are able to connect directly with their studies and make it so relevant to what they are learning in class”.
Alison Jackel
Sub – Regional Head of Department, One School Global, Vic (2024)
“Thank you for the time and commitment you have always demonstrated towards making the learning outcomes more meaningful and engaging to our students. Some students thought they now looked at primary food producers and farmers with a new respect as they saw for themselves how challenging the work is and hopefully, they will respect their food more.”
Great Aranha
